Our Beginnings

Neighbour Ring Community Services (NRCS) was founded in 2003 with the unwavering support of ECF Holy Word, guided by a simple yet powerful goal: to build a strong community through healthy relationships. Our journey began in the Joo Seng estate, where we reached out to socially isolated seniors, providing them with vital support to age gracefully within their community while alleviating loneliness. Essential services, like grocery rations, helped meet their immediate needs and demonstrated the power of compassion in action.

In 2005, we marked a significant milestone with the establishment of the Elderly Wellness Centre at Blk 8 Joo Seng Road. Supported by Southeast CDC and Geylang Serai CCC, this center has become a vibrant hub for outreach services to seniors in Joo Seng and the surrounding areas. Our focus on active community living and healthy lifestyles shines through in a diverse range of activities, from art and cultural dance to health talks and fitness programs like Zumba Gold and Stretch Band exercises. Festive celebrations, outings, and workshops further enrich lives, making the center a place where seniors find connection, joy, and purpose.

 

Part of the Community

NRCS has always been about more than just programs—it’s about meaningful partnerships and shared purpose. During the pandemic, our volunteers worked hand-in-hand with Potong Pasir CC to support the national vaccination drive, ensuring that vital information and assistance reached those who needed it most. Since 2016, we’ve co-organized the cherished community Christmas Celebration with the Joo Seng Residents Network, bringing joy and a sense of belonging to countless families.

Today, NRCS remains a beacon of hope, standing at the forefront of preventive care for seniors while expanding our vision to encompass mental well-being across generations. From intergenerational programs to accessible counseling services, our efforts now span individuals and families, fostering healthy relationships that strengthen the fabric of our community.

Our Future

As we celebrate 20 years of community impact, NRCS is committed to expanding its reach beyond Joo Seng to the wider Potong Pasir district, encompassing Bidadari, Sennett Estate, and beyond. Our new Neighbour Ring Community Counseling services will provide accessible, stigma-free mental health support for seniors, families, and individuals, addressing a growing need in our community. We are also launching workshops and enrichment programs to strengthen family bonds, nurture marriages, and support parental growth.
