Playing a game of balloon volleyball
Playing a game of balloon volleyball

This July and September, our seniors at Neighbour Ring Community Services (NRCS) gathered for two lively sessions of old school games—and the results were nothing short of joyful.

In the first session, the room was filled with memories as our seniors revisited the games of their youth. From kuti kuti, carrom, five stones, and pick-up sticks to classic board games like aeroplane chess, othello, and Chinese chess, every game sparked stories and laughter. For many, these games were not just pastimes but part of the fabric of their childhood, now shared once again with friends old and new.

The second session turned up the energy with collaborative team challenges. Seniors played seated volleyball with balloons, tackled small group activities that tested hand-eye coordination, and encouraged one another through each round. The air was filled with cheers, laughter, and even playful groans of frustration as they worked together and celebrated victories as a team.

What stood out most was not just the fun of the games but the transformation of the atmosphere. For those moments, limitations were forgotten. Seniors let their hair down, embraced the challenges, and rediscovered the simple joy of play. Their smiles, laughter, and loud cheers reminded us why such programs matter: they do more than entertain—they build confidence, foster connection, and uplift spirits.

At NRCS, we are committed to weaving such joyful experiences into our programs. Seeing our seniors laugh, cheer, and encourage one another assures us that play is not bound by age. It is a vital part of community, wellbeing, and life.
