NRCS Involvement in National Vaccination Drive

In the effort to stop the spread of COVID-19, Singapore is rolling out our vaccination drive in phases, starting from essential works and vulnerable groups. The priority among Singaporeans are our seniors as the effects of COVID-19 is especially pronounced among our seniors who are more likely to suffer from chronic diseases and weaken immune systems.

In support of the national vaccination drive, NRCS has been working with Potong Pasir Community Centre in activating our volunteers to engage the seniors in our community about the vaccination drive.

Our volunteers will partner with staff from the community centre to visit the residents to answer as questions and doubts about being vaccinated. If the residents are convinced and are willing to book their vaccination appointments, our volunteers are equipped to help the seniors to book their appointment on the spot.

Through this vaccination engagement drive, NRCS has activated over 20 volunteers who have been on rotation to go engage the seniors in the community every weekend since the end of February.

Our volunteers have undergone training with the community centres in answering frequently asked questions about the process and possible side effects of the vaccination so that they are confident in attending to the questions posed by the residents. Our volunteers will also need to be equipped to understand how to fill in the necessary online application forms to assist the residents in their booking.

Volunteers above 60 years of age were also given priority to be vaccinated before they start with the engagement to protect them from possible exposure.

Overall, this engagement exercise was meaningful to all the stakeholders involve as informing and protecting our seniors is one of the priorities of NRCS as well.
